Understanding Automotive Restoration
Automotive restoration is the process of returning a vehicle to its original condition or enhancing it to meet modern standards while maintaining its classic charm. This can involve a range of services, including:
Bodywork and Paint: Repairing dents, rust, and scratches, followed by a fresh coat of paint.
Mechanical Overhaul: Rebuilding or replacing engines, transmissions, and other critical components.
Interior Restoration: Revamping upholstery, dashboards, and other interior elements.
Electrical Systems: Upgrading or repairing wiring, lighting, and electronic components.
At Caropsis Atelier, each restoration project is treated as a unique work of art, with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
The Restoration Process at Caropsis Atelier
Initial Consultation
The journey begins with an initial consultation where clients discuss their vision for the restoration. This is a crucial step, as it allows the team to understand the client's expectations and the vehicle's history. During this phase, the team assesses the vehicle's condition and provides recommendations on the best approach to achieve the desired outcome.
Detailed Inspection
Following the consultation, a thorough inspection of the vehicle is conducted. This includes:
Structural Assessment: Evaluating the frame and body for any signs of damage or wear.
Mechanical Evaluation: Checking the engine, transmission, and other mechanical components for functionality.
Interior Condition: Assessing the state of the upholstery, dashboard, and other interior features.
This detailed inspection helps in creating a comprehensive restoration plan tailored to the specific needs of the vehicle.
Restoration Planning
Once the inspection is complete, the team at Caropsis Atelier develops a detailed restoration plan. This plan outlines the scope of work, timelines, and estimated costs. Transparency is key during this phase, ensuring that clients are fully informed about the process and any potential challenges.
Execution of Restoration
With a plan in place, the restoration process begins. The skilled craftsmen at Caropsis Atelier utilize a combination of traditional techniques and modern technology to bring the vehicle back to life. Key stages include:
Bodywork and Painting: Repairing any damage and applying high-quality paint finishes.
Mechanical Repairs: Rebuilding or replacing essential components to ensure optimal performance.
Interior Revamp: Restoring or replacing upholstery and interior features to match the original design or the client's preferences.
Throughout this phase, regular updates are provided to clients, allowing them to witness the transformation of their vehicle.
Final Inspection and Delivery
Once the restoration is complete, a final inspection is conducted to ensure that every detail meets the high standards of Caropsis Atelier. Clients are invited to view their restored vehicle, and any final adjustments are made based on their feedback. The goal is to ensure complete satisfaction before the vehicle is delivered.

Recent Projects From the Workshop
A 1968 Dodge Charger R/T
Found in a field in rural Indiana and imported with its original title, this Charger went through a complete nut-and-bolt disassembly. The shell was mounted on a rotisserie and stripped with paint remover and mechanical methods instead of sandblasting, to protect the thin original steel. The full story is in our journal.
A Jeep Wrangler YJ and a Rolatop Camper Van
A Sahara-trim Wrangler had its dash pulled to expose the rust around the A-pillar and cowl before any repair was quoted, then was cut back to clean metal, resprayed and reassembled. A van built for a Rolatop elevating roof was taken down to bare metal, repaired and repainted before the roof conversion. Both projects are documented step by step in our journal.
